Mechanicsburg, PA

John Elliot Sayler Jr. of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania died Wednesday, November 20, 2024. His life goes on eternally.

Born and raised in Warren, PA, he was the son of the late John E. Sayler, Sr. and Geraldine Parks Sayler. He is survived by his Uncle Andrew Popoff and his Aunt Nancy Parks Popoff, cousins L.D. Davidson, Lynne A. Davidson, Jenifer Davidson, Karen Popoff Pieters, and Bob Popoff. He is the uncle to six nieces and nephews Serena Davidson, Benjamin Davidson, Emilia Davidson, Elena Pieters, June Popoff, and Jillian Popoff.

John graduated valedictorian of his class of 1979 from Warren Area High School. He went on to Purdue University graduating Summa Cum Laude (B.S.C.E. and M.S.C.E. degrees). John was a professional civil engineer for many years, working out of offices in Tidioute, PA, New York City, and Mechanicsburg, PA; and later, began his own home design business. John’s love for historical architecture is reflected in his designs of several buildings in the Mechanicsburg area.

John was very active in the Gettysburg Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America and was a long-time editor for The Gas Buggy Gazette, an antique car magazine, winning several awards for the quality of his publications. John also was an avid antique car collector himself.

John demonstrated a strong commitment to excellence and achievement in everything he pursued. He encouraged and inspired these attributes from all his family members, friends, and other members of the Christian Science community. John’s devotion to Christian Science was reflected in his leadership of the Chambersburg, PA church, where he led the services for many years.

At his request, there will be no funeral services. Family and friends will gather at a later date to pay respects and to honor the memory of John.
