Somerset - Delia "Dee" Battista, 90, passed away peacefully April 4, 2018 at the Willow Creek Genesis health care rehab nursing home in Somerset, NJ.
Delia the youngest of ten was born in Elizabeth NJ; after she married she moved to Plainfield NJ and began raising her family. She had also lived in Dunellen, Somerville and the majority of her life in Middlesex Boro. She was a graduate of Battin high school.
Delia was a very unique person, always telling a joke, laughing and singing, even singing a tune a few days before her passing. Underneath all the smiles and laughter on the inside she lived with a broken heart after the passing of three of her sons, the youngest, James, passing in 2017. In her younger years Delia was known as a smooth dancer and excellent singer. She was a homemaker the majority of her life and had also worked for the Johns Manville Corp and Knickerbocker Toy company as a telex operator. Delia will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Delia was predeceased by her sons, John (1971) Michael (1974) and James (2017) and nine brothers and sisters. She is survived by her oldest son William and daughter in-law Brenda of Cresco, Pa and a daughter Laura Slemmer and son-in-law John of Franklin Park, NJ, a grandson, Justus Battista and his wife Lauralee of Middlesex and granddaughter Jaclyn Battista Salvo and her husband Rob of Gillette and seven great grandchildren. "Aunt Dee" is also survived by many nieces and nephews and two sisters in-law.
